The beginning of the year can often be tough. Post Christmas, it’s cold outside and let’s not even bring ‘Lockdown’ into the equation. So, I thought it might be the perfect time to start sharing some of my top tips to cure the Winter blues starting with the Heart Hug Meditation to cheer everyone up.

This gentle technique can help activate your very own personal self-healing and send love directly to your own heart centre. It’s a personal favourite of mine and one I use a lot on clients to help centre people and increase self-love and self-compassion and let’s be honest we could all probably do with a big hug right now – so why don’t we all just give one to ourselves!

Before we begin, if possible I’d like you to find a safe space where you can relax undisturbed in a comfortable position just for a few moments while you listen.

The Guided Meditation

Begin by lying flat on your back or sit up straight in a chair. Either way just make sure that your spine is straight, and you are comfortable and relaxed. If it helps just gently close your eyes.

You don't have to change your breathing in any way - just breathe naturally and fully. As you pay attention you may notice the movement and speed of your breathing shifts on its own and that’s just fine. Just go with the flow…

Maintain this gentle non-judgemental attention to this most natural of all processes, calming the heart and dissolving any negativity or unwanted tension as you go.

As you do this, I’d like you to place one hand over your heart and one hand over your stomach and imagine sending calm, loving energy directly to your heart centre.

Notice any warmth or warm feelings coming from your hand into your chest area and breathe in. Simply allow yourself to breathe in calm, peaceful, loving thoughts.

Breathe with your abdomen like a sleeping baby, nothing to do, nothing to think about. Breathe is the most valuable thing you have and it’s absolutely free. Imagine sending all the love and compassion you would to a young child or even a younger version of you.

We've all had those special moments when we have felt touched by a deep unwavering sense of pure joy. A moment when you have felt completely safe and at peace. And I’d like you to imagine that right now

Allow your inner wisdom to present you with a time or place in your life when you felt pure, unconditional love. Don’t search too hard. Just notice what comes into your awareness.

Take a moment and just breathe very deeply into your body. Allow yourself into that most loving memory and really feel into what is happening and how you are feeling in the space. Where does it touch you the most?

Notice your heart expanding and opening and your mind quietening. This is your home frequency - the loving space in between words or thoughts. The stillness or centeredness in your very core. It is your wise inner guide, your essential self or your place of pure, perfect love.

In this space, our interactions with the world are coming from a place of authenticity, power and love. Our relationships can blossom. Our work can fulfil us, and we can feel full of abundance and gratitude for the joy of life.

You can stay in this position offering yourself the deep heart hug for as long as you need to replenish your inner reserves. Be aware of any sensations in your body, acknowledge them and then gently bring your awareness back to your breathe.

And when you’re ready you can drift back across time and space, bringing these wonderful feelings and this sense of perspective with you. And you can continue with your day feeling refreshed, alert and clear-headed.
